What the PTO spends money on: The PTO has a budget of roughly $40,000 each year. There are regular items that are paid for every year which is considered our "operating budget"
Operating budget expenses include: --paper supplies including the printed student directory, and various supplies --administrative expenses
After the operating budget is covered (roughly $12,000) The PTO decides on what to spend the remaining amount.
Every year we divide roughly between $15-20,000 and give it directly to the grade leaves and specialist teachers. This "budget" we give them allows them to cover any out of pocket expenses that may occur, purchase items for their classroom or program. The largest amount goes to supplementing field trip costs that allow the use of charter buses and expensive admittance fees!
We have been functioning with a model of providing for the daily expenses - which total a lot amongst all the programs at SRE- as well as funding one "big project" each year. The 2012/13 recipient was the music program. Several thousand dollars were provided to purchase a full instrument program (Orff Ensemble) In 2013/14 our target goal was the Literacy Program which stretched into many of our projects throughout the year.
